The anchor is connected to a solid aluminum chain which is approximately 20' long when fully extended. This was used on the miniature special effects battleship in the film! This was the'Torpedo Anchor' used in the scene when the crew drops the anchor on the battleship to prevent it from being hit by the torpedo attack.
